RE: Cummins 450 hp main belt

Serpentine belts are supposed to be replaced about every three years. After shredding a belt on I-75 that's now my policy.

RE: Furnace Issue

Bad limit switch maybe? You'll probably have to pull the unit to get at it.

RE: Demopolis AL to Gulf State Park

US-43 to I-65/Saraland, I-65/Saraland to AL-59 just north of Bay Minette, AL-59 down to Gulf Shores. Nothing narrow or freaky. Al-59 from I-10 southwards can have a bit of traffic. I avoid Mobile.

RE: Calgon & Dawn treatment for waste tank sensors issues works!

I recently had to replace the grey tank in my 30-year-old MH. The black and fresh tanks have the original sensor system which is foil tape at various intervals on the tank; it's still working fine. The new tank has the dreaded through-wall system, so I added the sensor reader to work with it. Almost invariably after dumping it still reads at least 1/3; after several days it dries out and indicates empty. Ridiculous. If it gets to be a real problem I'll try the Mopeka "sonar" sensor.

RE: Allison transmission fluid change interval.

Have the fluid tested.

RE: Water Softeners?

On the Go and Flow-Pur are common and fine; $250 is a decent price.

RE: Cleaning Onan generator slip rings

As Doug points out, a gen with bad slip rings generally won't generate power at all and newer generators will not run. That load makes a difference sounds like a heat issue.

RE: Issues with Premier Freightliner

Why didn't you take an engine problem to an engine shop to begin with? Cummins works on my 30-year-old engine and generator without quibble. They won't do any other chassis work, and I don't ask them to. Your best bet is to find a good independent, but the search might be expensive.

Is it making electricity when it's running?

RE: generator damages AC, other electornics

Don't you use an EMS? If not, you should. It'll protect your electricals.

RE: Learned an expensive lesson today

What fulltimers have been doing for decades is get a domicile address that's an actual, physical address at a campground that they do or have lived at rather than or in addition to a mail-forwarding service PMB address. See Escapees.com for info.

RE: Onan Generator

My 30-year-old Onan manual specifies two hours monthly. I run it an hour once or twice a month. Running the gen will scrub crud off the slip rings and brushes.

Almost disaster

I had a shop in Foley Al. change the oil and filters. It was expected that they'd use their filters, double the price of Fleetguard filters. An additional $70 to install their double-priced air filter was surprising, but that's a real pain to do. The real kicker, though, was that the oil sump drain plug was only finger-tight, or finger-loose, and had backed out about halfway to falling out. That I always take a peek to see what's leaking today saved us. Always, always go behind service people and check things.

RE: Florida State Park Reservation window changes

Locals will grab every weekend anyway, so this just gives them a month head start. That will surely shut out anyone who would like to stay more than five days at a time.
